“Hello . How are you?”
My phone rings and it was a familiar voice.
Oh . . . It’s you! ! !
It took about few seconds for me to realized that its one of my old friends calling me after some time.
It was a pleasant surprise and I started thinking of the importance of “keeping in touch” and giving a surprise call to amaze others. This small incident reminded me of a chain mail which I received from a friend sometime back.
The mail says ;
Dear friend do you know how friendship breaks?
Both friends will think the other is busy
And will not contact thinking it may be disturbing
Time passes
Both will think let the other contact
After that each will think why should I contact first ? Here your love will be converted to hate
Finally without any contact the memory becomes weak
They forget each other
So keep in touch with all and pass this to all your friends . . .
I don`t want to be one of this kind
So here I am, sending a mail to everyone to say “hello”
I’m fine here
Please keep in touch with me !
Though it’s a simple message in the above mail, it has a great meaning. We often lose friends because you didn’t bother to give a call and keep in touch. In an age where there are many ways to connect with each other through several medium such as emails and social media, there are yet lapses in communicating which finally result in losing the friendship.
This story directed me to think on “The Magic of Keep-in-Touch Marketing”.
You’ve probably got a number of names in your contact list, but when was the last time they heard from you? If you’re like many business owners or marketers, you spend more time looking for new business than keeping in touch with your current and former clients. But nurturing the relationships you already have is crucial to growing a successful business. And finding a way to keep in touch with those contacts on a regular basis is integral for keeping yourself and your business on their minds.
Especially when you become a “Manager” you scale down the degree of communication you have with your important clients. It may be due to busy schedules with many operational duties you have to perform during the day time but even it is prolific to give few calls at least when you are on the way home and give a feelings to others that “I do care for you”.
It is true that you can’t call everyone everyday and others will not expect you to do so. Theory here is that the duration between two calls needs to be long enough to surprise the receiver but not too long to give an impression that “you forget me”.
Whatever method you use for keeping in touch, keep in mind that your main idea is just to remind people that you’re still around and that you have value to offer.
Russian novelist Boris Pasternak once said;
“Surprise is the greatest gift which life can grant us”.
So, keep on surprising others.
